Congratulations to high school student Andres Leon (mentored by FCE graduate student Viviana Mazzei), who received a Superior rating and The American Meteorological Award at the 2017 South Florida Regional Science and Engineering Fair!

Congratulations to high school student Katarzyna Bezen (mentored by FCE collaborator Dr. Anna Wachnicka) for receiving a Superior rating at the 2017 South Florida Regional Science and Engineering Fair!

Xavier Cortada hosted a FLOR 500 participatory, eco-art, Earth Day event with FCE LTER for Sweetwater Elementary's 2017 Earth Day Celebration. During the event, FCE Volunteers read One Night in the Everglades to the entire school, in 35 classrooms, reaching 721 PreK-5 students.
Xavier Cortada's CLIMA 2016 exhibit at the Milander Center for Arts and Entertainment in Hialeah, Florida featured science-inspired art works, including works he created at three Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) sites: Florida Coastal Everglades LTER, Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest LTER, and H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest
Painting from 'In Deep with Diatoms' exhibit
The "In Deep with Diatoms" exhibit at FIU's Frost Art Museum in February 2015 featured paintings of diatoms by the Tropical Botanic Artists and diatom sculptures by Xavier Cortada. The artists worked closely with Dr. Evelyn Gaiser's Periphyton Lab while preparing the exhibit.
FCE high school student Felipe Tamayo's story, "High-schooler digs the Everglades," is featured in the Fall 2014 LTER Network newsletter!
Congratulations to Sara Osorio for recieving a "superior" rating at the 2014 South Florida Regional Science and Engineering Fair of Florida and Third Place in Environmental Science at the State Science and Engineering Fair of Florida.
