Description:
Cells small, slightly curved in girdle view; valves are elliptic to elliptic-lanceolate, sometimes with drawn out or widely capitate apices; thick (bi-multiseriate) striae are radial, sometimes almost transverse on araphid valves, and continuous; raphe valve with prominent raphe often centrally expanded and turned to the side at apices; sternum variable; valve mantle has inconspicuous ring of mantle pores; valve is ribbed internally between areolae clusters; length is 4-20(40)µm, breadth is 5-10(15)µm; striae count is 10-15(2) in 10µm
