FCE-LTER Phase I (2000-2006) Research Results

The Florida Coastal Everglades Long-term Ecological Research (FCE-LTER) project focuses on biological and physical dynamics in the Everglades’ estuarine ecotones, or regions where freshwater and saltwater mix. The primary goal of Phase I of the project was to understand the factors controlling productivity – the amount of living material produced when nutrients and energy from sunlight are used to create plant tissues – in the ecotones. Two sources of productivity were examined: a marine source of phosphorus and an upstream source of nutrients in the form of organic matter, or nutrient-containing compounds derived from living things.

Findings by Working Group

Phase I of the FCE-LTER project was divided into seven working groups. Each working group focused on a set of key research questions and/or major processes that were being quantified. The links below display findings by working group.
