Site Role: RESSt Intern (2002-2003)
Mentor scientist:
Dr. Dan Childers
Projects:
Canal inputs of water and nutrients to oligotrophic marshes in the Florida Coastal Everglades
The Everglades is a nutrient poor ecosystem and is the reason that Michael studied the nutrient concentrations in new and old leaves of sawgrass. He looked to see if the plants would reabsorb nutrients before a dying leaf was released from the plant. Although he did not find a difference he was able to present his results in a poster to over 100 researchers at the FCE-LTER All Scientists Meeting in 2003.
