Water Column

The water column of the freshwater slough changes with season. With over 100 cm of precipitation each year, the depth can change from less than 10 cm to greater than 100 cm.

Water is crystal clear at the Florida Coastal Everglades Long Term Ecological Research sites and throughout the Eleocharis sloughs in Everglades National Park. There are very low levels of nutrients in the water column.

Scientists are studying how the quantity, quality, and distribution of water effect marsh plants, animals and microscopic organisms.
