Fringe
Mangroves

There are several types of mangroves in the Florida Coastal Everglades;
the Red Mangrove (Rhizophora mangle), The Black Mangrove (Avicennia
germinans) and White Mangrove, (Laguncularia racemosa)
and Buttonwoods (Conocarpus erectus).
Mangroves must survive the stresses of flooding and salt in the
estuary. Red mangroves have prop roots that increase
oxygen uptake and line the banks of keys and rivers in the
Everglades like these in the Taylor River. Black mangroves exude salt from their leaves and both red and black mangroves are well adapted to salinity changes.
