Phytoplankton community

A member of Florida Bay's phytoplankton community

This tiny organism is a member of the phytoplankton community in Florida Bay. These organisms provide food and process nutrients in the water column and floor of the bay.

Long term research is being conducted to look at these organisms to understand what controls their numbers, where they live and how they affect nutrient cycling in Florida Bay.
