Florida
Bay

Florida Bay is a large wedge-shaped estuary (fresh and salt water
mixing area) bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.
Water quality in Florida Bay is dependent on freshwater from the Everglades
marsh. Precipitation and evaporation of water are important components
of the water cycle in Florida Bay.
The color of Florida Bay is affected by the high amount of calcium
carbonate in the water column. On sunny days in morning and noon the
water reflects a deep blue green. In the afternoon, the waters of
Florida Bay reflect a light purple color.
