Additional Sources of Everglades Data Definitions

SFWMD DBHYDRO Brower: DBHYDRO is the South Florida Water Management District's corporate environmental database which stores hydrologic, meteorologic, hydrogeologic and water quality data. This database is the source of historical and up-to-date environmental data for the 16-county region covered by the District. The DBHYDRO Browser allows you to search DBHYDRO, using one or more criteria, and to generate a summary of the data from the available period of record.

USGS TIME: The USGS website for the Tides and Inflows in the Mangroves of the Everglades (TIME) Project. The TIME Project is focused on developing a numerical model to investigate the interacting effects of freshwater inflows and tidal forces in and along the mangrove ecotone of south Florida. Archived TIME data supporting the model development are available on the TIME Data pages.

SERC Water Quality Monitoring Network: The function of the SERC Water Quality Monitoring Network is to address regional water quality concerns that exist outside the boundaries of individual political entities. Biscayne Bay, Florida Bay & Whitewater Bay, Ten Thousand Islands, and Marco-Pine Island Sound are sampled monthly, while the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary and the Southwest Florida Shelf are sampled quarterly. The data summary maps are produced on a quarterly basis by integrating the individual projects into one data file for that month sampled.

USGS Sofia: The South Florida Information Access (SOFIA) site provides scientific information access in support of research, decision-making, and resource management for the South Florida ecosystem restoration effort. Users can access information on projects by title, investigator, or by region. The data exchange site contains data related to all of the projects and the Sofia publications database contains Open File Reports, Fact Sheets, and other publications for integrated science projects.

USGS Water Data for Florida: The USGS Water Data for Florida website provides access to water-resources data collected throughout Florida. The USGS investigates the occurrence, quantity, quality, distribution, and movement of surface and underground waters and disseminates the data to the public, State and local governments, public and private utilities, and other Federal agencies involved with managing our water resources.

USGS Real-time Ground Water Conditions in Florida: Data from real-time gages are relayed to the USGS through the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite(GOES) data-collection system. Data are transmitted from each station at intervals of 4 hours and are loaded onto the USGS computer system. Real-time data available on this web site are PROVISIONAL data that have not been reviewed nor edited. These data may be subject to significant change and may not be cited until reviewed and approved by the U.S. Geological Survey.

NOAA National Data Buoy Center: The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Data Buoy Center (NDBC) is a part of the National Weather Service (NWS) and it designs, develops, operates, and maintains a network of data collecting buoys and coastal stations. NDBC provides comprehensive, reliable systems and marine observations to support the missions of the National Weather Service (NWS) and NOAA, promote public safety, and satisfy the future needs of their customers.

NOAA Tides and Currents: NOAA Tides and Currents, managed by the Center for Operational Oceanographic Products and Services (CO-OPS), is the portal to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's vast collection of oceanographic and meteorological data (historical and real-time), predictions, and nowcasts and forecasts.

Atlantic Oceanographic & Meteorological Laboratory (AOML), Hurricane Research Division (HRD) Hurricane Data: NOAA's Hurricane Research Division has a variety of data sets that have been collected during their annual Hurricane Field Program. This consists mostly of data collected by NOAA aircraft flying into and around hurricanes, but also includes wind field analyses, land based radar loops, and data archived from U.S. Air Force reconnaissance flights.

South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) GIS Data: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) provide a visual and spatial perspective of data about water resource systems. GIS can be interactive, and may include satellite pictures. SFWMD distributes GIS data that has been loaded into its Enterprise GIS Data Library databases via the GIS Data Catalog.
