Nitzschia thermalis Kütz. var. minor Hilse 1863; Podzorski states that this name is applied consistently to the same taxon in tropical literature, but contends that this should be referred to as Nitzschia homburgiensis Lange-Bertalot for nomenclatural reasons
Description:
Frustules in girdle view are linear rectangle with rounded corners, with centre more or less constricted; valves are linear, constricted in the centre, attenuated at the apices into distinctly rostrate to subcapitate apices; keel is marginal; fibulae (7-10 in 10µm) are evenly elongated transapically but not thickened, with the two central ones further apart than the others; very faint transapical striae, sometimes unresolvable; length is 50-70µm, breadth is 5-10µm; striae count is about 32 in 10µm
