Description:
Frustules are oblong; weakly silicified oval valves have broadly rounded apices and no intercalary bands; a group of spines (seen as bright bars) can be seen midway from the centre to the apices and on each side of the valve, where they form the corners of a thickened, "H"-shaped central area (the spines are met by a narrow annular silica membrane that rings the valve); striae are invisible; raphe is simple, with a narrow but distinct central nodule; axial area is linear; canopeum is oval in outline with broadly tapered apices, visible only in the apical region; length is 15.9-27µm, breadth is 6.5-8.3µm
