Ecological Modeler

General Job Description:
Cardno ENTRIX is seeking a Senior Ecological Modeler to work with a multidisciplinary team of accomplished biologists, hydrologists, geologists, engineers and planners on a variety of projects, primarily in the Eastern Region of the U.S. Office location is open but the preferred location would be our Knoxville, TN.


Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:
1. Client Interaction
2. Developing and applying ecological models
3. Performing numerical sensitivity and uncertainty analysis
4. Preparing reports/publications


Basic Qualifications:
1. PhD in aquatic ecology with emphasis on systems analysis and ecological modeling
2. Minimum of 5 years experience developing and applying ecological models (10-15 years preferred)
3. Prior experience performing numerical sensitivity and uncertainty analysis
4. Demonstrated ability to work directly with clients and initiating modeling projects
5. Work familiarity with current frameworks and guidelines for ecological risk assessment and natural resource damage assessment.
6. Experience in modeling diverse physical, chemical and biological stressors in aquatic systems.
7. Ability to program in Fortan, C++, Visual Basic or related programming languages
8. Must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship

Florida International University Resource Monitoring Intern

Dr. Kevin Whelan is looking for a person to work on a two year Schaus Swallowtail Butterfly (Heraclides aristodemus ponceanus) Habitat Enhancement in Biscayne National Park.
The three major project components of the habitat enhancement project are:

  • Establishment of supplemental host plants.
    Establish plantings of torchwood (Amryis elmifera) and wild lime (Zanthoxylum fagara) in various locations in Biscayne National Park (BISC). These two native plant species are food for the larval stage of the Schaus butterfly.
  • Restoration of critical hardwood hammock.
    Restore hardwood hammocks by removing invasive plant species and planting native trees. Hardwood hammocks provide critical habitat for the adult stage of the Schaus butterfly.
  • In situ outreach and education program.
    Increase public awareness of Schaus swallowtail butterfly habitat and instill stewardship through interpretive signage and volunteer and outreach programs.

  • The work allows for a person to work up to 20 hrs a week working through Florida International University Resource monitoring Internship Program (ReMI).
